If development has not happened, or has happened on one side only

Do not treat this as a cosmetic question. Breasts that have not developed by the time the rest of the body has finished developing, development that stopped early on both sides, or development on one side and not the other, are assessed through a diagnostic route, because the explanations include hormonal causes that are treatable and that matter beyond appearance.

Arranging an ordinary assessment

Where development has followed a normal pattern and the question is about size, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say that you are asking about breast development and size so that the right clinic time is booked. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so when you book, because the assessment and any tests can sometimes be arranged together in fewer visits.

What to bring

Bring any records of previous breast surgery or imaging, a list of your current medicines and allergies, and the names of any conditions you are being treated for. It helps to know when the breasts began to develop, when they stopped changing, and whether the pattern runs in your family. If your menstrual cycle has never been regular, or your periods have stopped, mention that at the first appointment.

What happens at the consultation

Expect a history before an examination. When development happened and when it stopped, how it has changed with weight and with any pregnancy, and whether the body weight is where it is likely to stay. The chest wall, the breast, the fold and the soft tissue covering the chest are measured. You should leave knowing whether development is complete, whether anything needs investigating, and what the options can and cannot achieve.
