Meet the Breast Assessment Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs breast augmentation and fat transfer here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what this assessment often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience, the assessment of the skin and soft tissue that any added volume sits within, and the dermatologic assessment of the skin of the chest wall.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Breast augmentation and fat transfer · developmental history and timing · frame and soft tissue assessment

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the question that comes before any plan: whether development is complete, and whether there is anything here that needs assessing rather than augmenting. He takes the developmental history before measuring anything, records the chest wall and the soft tissue covering it, and treats a plan made for someone else as a reason to wait rather than a reason to operate. Where the honest answer is that nothing needs doing, or that the timing is wrong, he says so.

Clinical focus

  • Developmental history and whether growth has finished
  • Assessment of the frame and the soft tissue covering the chest
  • Augmentation and fat transfer planning built on the measurements
  • The limits of adding volume, stated before an operation rather than after
  • Revision assessment when previous augmentation has left a problem

The question that comes first

Whether development has finished is not a formality. Growth can continue into the early twenties, and an operation performed before it has stopped is planned around a shape that has not settled. It is also the point at which a developmental finding is separated from an ordinary variation, because those two lead in completely different directions.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard a plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Patients who arrive with a problem after an augmentation performed elsewhere are usually assessed within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · the skin and soft tissue envelope

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the envelope the volume goes into: skin quality, the thickness of the soft tissue over the chest, and how both will behave over the years. That assessment is what decides how much of a result is visible and how it ages.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · skin conditions of the chest wall

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the skin of the chest wall and any condition on it that has to be clear before an operation, along with the skin conditions that can change how the breast appears without anything having changed inside it.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start by asking whether anything needs to change

Arrange an assessment. We will establish whether development is complete, whether anything needs investigating, and what the options can and cannot achieve, including the option of doing nothing.
